CapWorld Help

Answers to common questions about the CapWorld app. If you can't find what you need, write to supports@capworld.app and we'll get back to you.

Getting started

Making a cap

  1. On Caps or Collections, pull the page down from the top to reveal the camera.
  2. Tap the shutter. CapWorld lifts the subject out of the photo and writes a short description of it.
  3. Tap Add to Caps to keep it, or Retake to try again.

To use a picture you already have, tap Photos next to the shutter. To close the camera, swipe up or tap the close button.

Getting better results

Recognition needs an internet connection.

Permissions

Camera

If you declined camera access, turn it on in the iPhone Settings app under Apps › CapWorld › Camera. Without the camera you can still use Photos. CapWorld uses the system photo picker, so it only receives the pictures you choose and never asks for access to your whole library.

Photos

When you save a share image to your library, CapWorld asks for permission to add photos. It can only add images and can't see your library. If you declined, turn it on under Apps › CapWorld › Photos in the Settings app.

Location

If you allow location access, CapWorld records where each cap was taken while the camera is open. The location is saved with the cap on your iPhone and is removed from the image before a photo is sent for analysis. The place name appears in the cap's details and on share images, and is included in exported backups. You can turn it off at any time under Apps › CapWorld › Location in the Settings app; caps you capture afterward won't have a location.

Recognition and descriptions

Recognition failed or isn't responding

Check your internet connection and try again. If it keeps failing, retake the photo with the subject larger and better lit. If recognition is unavailable for a long time, let us know roughly when it happened.

The description is wrong

Descriptions are generated automatically and can be incomplete or wrong. Open the cap and tap the Edit Cap button in the bottom corner to change its title, category and description. If a result is wrong before you add it, tap the question mark button at the bottom and enter the correct name. CapWorld identifies it again and uses that name as the title.

Never rely on a description to decide whether a plant, mushroom, animal, food, drink or medicine is safe to eat, touch or use. See the Terms of Service.

Which language are descriptions written in?

Descriptions are written in the app's current language. Caps you've already saved keep their text; changing the language doesn't translate them.

Caps and collections

Creating a collection and adding caps

Collections are albums you put together yourself. On Collections, tap and choose New Collection. To add caps, go to Caps, tap , choose Select, tick the caps you want and tap Add to Collection. A cap can belong to several collections.

When a new cap fits one of your collections, CapWorld may file it there automatically. A card at the bottom of the screen lets you take it back out within a few seconds.

Collection covers

A collection's cover is always the cap most recently added to it. An empty collection shows a folder until you add a cap.

Sharing caps and collections

Open a cap and tap the Share Cap button in the bottom corner, or open a collection, tap and choose Share Collection. CapWorld makes a share image that you can keep with Save to Photos or send to another app with Share at the top. A cap's share image shows its title, date and, if it has one, where it was found, so check it before you share.

Deleting caps and collections

Deleted caps can't be recovered.

Your data

Where are my caps stored?

Only on your iPhone. CapWorld has no account and doesn't sync caps between devices. Deleting the app deletes all of your caps unless you've exported a backup or backed up your iPhone first.

Exporting and importing a backup

In Settings › Backup, tap Export Backup to save all your caps, collections and subject images as one .capworld file, which you can keep in the Files app or send to another device. To restore it, tap Import Backup on the other device and choose the file.

Importing merges the backup with what's already there and never deletes caps on the device; if a cap exists in both, the more recent edit is kept. On the free version, caps and collections beyond the limits aren't imported; after subscribing to Plus, import the same backup again to bring in the rest.

A backup includes where your caps were found and isn't encrypted, so keep it safe and share it only with people you trust.

Moving to a new iPhone

The simplest way is to export a backup on your old iPhone and import it on the new one. Caps are also stored with the app's data in iPhone backups, so setting up your new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup of your old one, or transferring directly from your old iPhone, brings them along too. Check that your caps are there before you erase the old device or delete CapWorld from it.

Privacy

Photos you capture or choose are sent to our servers to generate descriptions, together with your collection names (to suggest a collection) and any name you enter when asking CapWorld to identify a subject again. The Privacy Policy explains what is processed and for how long. To make a privacy request, write to supports@capworld.app.

Plus subscription

What Plus includes

The free version limits how many caps and collections you can keep. You can see your current usage in Settings › Usage. Plus removes both limits. Prices and billing periods are shown in the app before you buy.

Restoring a purchase

After reinstalling the app or on another device, open the Plus page from the card at the top of Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the Apple Account you used to subscribe.

I paid but Plus isn't active

If Plus still isn't active, write to supports@capworld.app with the order ID from Apple's receipt email.

Cancelling Plus

Plus renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, either on the Plus page with Manage Subscription or in your Apple Account subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn't cancel the subscription. After you cancel, Plus stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and your saved caps aren't deleted.

Refunds

Apple handles all payments, so we can't issue refunds ourselves. You can request one from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Language and appearance

Under Settings › Appearance you can choose the app's Language and Theme. Both apply right away. System follows your iPhone's settings.
